Shawn McEachern

Winchester, MA (February 3, 2020) - The Boston Imperials Hockey Academy has announced that one of Matignon\'s most famous hockey alumnus, Shawn McEachern, will be joining the Academy to coach the U16 Boys Academy Team for the upcoming 2020 season.  Shawn joins the Boston Imperials after spending the last ten years as head boys' varsity ice hockey coach at the Rivers School, an independent grade 6-12 prep school in Weston, Massachusetts.

\"I\'m very excited to join the Boston Imperials Hockey Academy at Matignon High School. Playing hockey at Matignon for legendary coach Marty Pierce was such a big part of my high school experience. I\'m looking forward to being part of the Matignon community and the Boston Imperials bringing hockey back to Matignon,\" said McEachern.

Academy Director Nate Bostic added, \"Having a coach of Shawn\'s playing and coaching pedigree to work with our Academy students is a dream come true. The fact that he is an alumnus of Matignon and also played many years in the NHL is exactly the type of role model we want coaching our academy players.\" notes Nate Bostic, Academy Director.

After graduating from Matignon, McEachern represented Team USA in the 1992 Olympics and then went on to a 13-year NHL career with the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators, and Atlanta Thrashers.  During his professional career, he tallied 254 goals and 317 assists and also won a Stanley Cup championship in 1992 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.   Before his coaching tenure at Rivers, he previously served as an assistant hockey coach at University of Massachusetts Lowell, Northeastern University, and Salem State University.

"Our goal is to be the premier hockey academy in the country, and in order to reach that goal, we are going to hire the best staff to ensure the development and exposure for our players. Shawn is a tremendous coach and has a playing background that many of our students would like to have.  We are very, very glad to have him on our staff."  said Dennis Franczak, Boston Imperials founder and club President.

The Boston Imperials are a USA Hockey Sanctioned Hockey Club headquartered in Winchester, MA with a National Tier 1 Academy Program at Matignon High School as well as fall Tier 1 and Tier 2 National Bound Boys and Girls teams at the U14-U19 Levels.
