Do you dream about playing college hockey? Make sure you know the latest changes to the NCAA recruiting rules! Last week, the NCAA Division I Council announced their changes to the college recruitment process. The two proposals that were implemented would completely prohibit contact between coaches and prospects prior to January 1st of their sophomore year of high school. This includes official visits to the said campus. This proposal also states that August 1st of a prospect’s junior year, is the earliest possible time an NCAA coach can make a verbal offer. Now it does say that in a player’s sophomore year, unofficial visits are permitted, in which the prospect must reach out to the coaching staff on his own merit. Official visits, initiated by the coaching staff, are permitted post-August 1 of the player’s junior year. Click here to learn more about NCAA Hockey Recruiting Rules and Guidelines.
